Civil Service Rules and Classification Structure Being Drafted
November 2003
For the past several months, DOP has been meeting with state agency and higher education human resource professionals, and union representatives, on the classification structure and preliminary draft rules for the new civil service system.
The draft personnel rules will be distributed for public comment and hearings over the course of several months, starting in January 2004. DOP will post a schedule by December 2003 outlining when proposed rules on specific topics will be released for public review.
Watch for the proposed plan and schedule to be posted here on the Washington Works website and also on the Department of Personnel’s Human Resource 2005 website.
DOP has met with thousands of employees about the proposed changes to the civil service system. More than 6,000 state employees attended 94 information sessions held in 50 locations throughout the state.
In December, the Department of Personnel (DOP) will distribute the proposed plan for the new civil service occupational categories and levels, along with the associated compensation structure. Public input on the new categories will be scheduled in stages throughout 2004.
