Draft Classification Plan Now Available
December 2003
The Department of Personnel (DOP) has released the most recent draft of the new classification structure for state jobs. The draft shows a list of the proposed occupational categories and levels, where existing job classes would fit within the new structure, and the proposed salary range that would be assigned to each level. Along with the category list, DOP has posted an overview of how the proposed classification and compensation system will work.
This draft of the new classification structure reflects changes based on external input from agencies, higher education institutions, expert consultants, state employees, and others. Employees are encouraged to provide feedback on the revised plan through their agency or institutions’ human resource office or by using the feedback form that is posted along with draft.
The next step is to develop the individual class specifications for each category and level—a process that will involve a series of discussion meetings with agency/institution human resource staff and labor representatives beginning in January and continuing through much of 2004. The draft specifications will be posted in groups on the DOP website prior to the time that they’re scheduled for discussion. A feedback form will be provided for input on the draft specifications.
The first group of job specifications is now available for review. This group includes 22 occupational categories, including the “Clerical, Office Support, & Secretarial” category. The full list can be viewed on the Department of Personnel’s website
